About Me
I have a 2nd grader, husband, and two very opinionated cats.

Why do I want to run for the Board of Education?

My child started in Pre-K at Marie Murphy and is now a second grader at Avoca West. As I watched the school’s positive impact on him, I wanted to learn more. So I jumped right in! First, it was classroom parties. Then, bigger events like Fun Fair. Recently, I taught dance for Art in Action (which was almost as fun for the kids as it was for me).
But after the failed referendum, I saw a disconnect between the schools and the community. That led me to take on a leadership role in the Parent Teacher Council as Director of Communications. Now, with a deeper understanding of our district, I’m ready to take the next step and serve on the School Board.
FAQs
What do you do for fun?
When I am not managing my 7 year old and his schedule, I love to dance (hip hop is my specialty), practice karate, crochet (or knitting depending on what I am in the mood for), and reading.
What is your favorite thing about Avoca?
Where do I even start? There are so many reasons I love Avoca, but I’ll focus on one which is the incredible teachers and staff. They don’t just see my son as a student. They know him as a person. They truly understand his learning style and support him in ways that truly make a difference. When he needed extra help, the team made the process less stressful and the discussions have been collaborative. His growth both academically and socially has been nothing short of amazing, and I’m beyond grateful for the role they’ve played in his journey.
What is your favorite part about being a Board Member on the Parent Teacher Council?
I enjoy being a leader, and I work with a fantastic group of Board Members! It allows me to give back to our schools through various events that help build community, and provide things like lunches during conferences and innovation grants that allow our teachers to improve ways that they teach in their classrooms. I love meeting people whether it is working as a volunteer or a PTC representative.
